Hans Peterman established the Low End Bass Studio 9 years ago with the idea that popular music experience could be combined with formal classical training to make music learning fun, rewarding, and challenging for everyone from the Bach enthusiast to the hardcore rock musician. Hans teaches contemporary and classical music to students 10 years and up, specializing in serious, career-minded double bass students, as well as designing and implementing class and lesson pedagogy for adult learners and young beginners.
Low End Bass Studio lessons and classes provide:
- Individualized lesson plans based on your skill levels and needs; Classes designed based on student skill level
- Lesson planning using multiple sources, a library of my own materials, original exercises and compositions, and transcribed songs for individual students that make learning more fun and interesting
- Students will learn musical fluency; A balance of technical studies with musical knowledge like harmony, chord theory, scales and modes, and more
- Goal of helping students learn to be musicians who play bass, not just bass players
Hans Peterman is a professional double (upright) bassist performing and teaching in the Chicago area. Students from Hans’ studio consistently win entrance and principal positions with some of the most acclaimed groups in Chicago youth music, including the Symphony and Philharmonic orchestras of the CYSO, People’s Music School and ChiMOP. Hans has mentored and helped his students win major scholarships and entrance to some of the most prestigious conservatories in the country, including DePaul, CCPA at Roosevelt, University of Chicago, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, San Francisco Conservatory of Music, University of Illinois at Champaign, Lawrence Conservatory, and many others. Hans is also the resident bass teacher at Lane Tech High School. Bass guitar students for the Low End Bass Studio are playing and recording with some of the most successful groups gigging in Chicago today.
